EKOMAR Facilities

EKOMAR is currently operating from the third floor of Dewan Anuar Mahmud (DAM) since 01 January 2008. There is a meeting room, a post-doctorate room, a staff room and the Coordinator's room. The place needs a bit of face-lift and upgrading of basic furniture at the moment, but plans are underway to renovate the various working spaces. EKOMAR also has a 3-storey shoplot serving as its field operation office in Mersing, Johor and the neccessary renovation will start very soon. The Mersing Operation office will have an office, display area, wet lab, dry lab and a separate dormitory for man and woman. The office site is adjacent to the bus station and there are many food stalls in the immediate vicinity of the area, so getting cheap decent meals are not a problem here. There is also a small supermarket around the corner if one needs to stock up on provisions, so it is really quite a convenient and cozy place for a stopover before or after a research expedition or fieldwork in the outlying forests or out at sea. There are plans in the pipeline to build an EKOMAR research complex in Mersing, for which all the necessary discussions and paperwork are underway. This research complex is expected to be built on a 3-acre land, which will have all the necessary laboratory equipment and spaces for research purposes. It is in the interest of EKOMAR to be a hub for all pertinent and significant research activities pertaining to marine and terrestrial biodiversity, engineering, botany, biotechnology and etc, for all those who are interested. Below are some of the photos of the office building in Mersing and the proposed site for the EKOMAR research complex.

The Mersing office is right in front of the river, where access to boat is convenient
